Engineering geology of small water storage structures in Australian arid regions

Embankment stability, inadequate catchment areas, seepage losses and high salinity are the main problems in the successful construction of small water storages in arid and semi-arid regions. It is essential for success that storages be correctly sited, and that the design be suited to the materials available. The investigation for an excavated tank-earth dam system near Broken Hill, Australia, is described as an example.
