The stabilization of some arid zone soils with cement and lime

E. G. Akpokodje

Department of Geology, University of Port Harcourt, P.M.B. 5323, Port Harcourt, Nigeria

Tests on three groups of Australian arid zone soils indicate that cement is a more effective stabilizing agent than lime. Sandy soils rich in gypsum and bassanite do not respond to stabilization. The cement stabilized clayey soils must be adequately protected against increase in moisture content.
