Letters to the Editor

Some engineering aspects of rock weathering with field examples from Dartmoor and elsewhere

P. G. Fookes, W. R. Dearman & J. A. Franklin

Dear Sir,

We would like to draw the attention of readers to four references on the weathering of Dartmoor granite and erosion surfaces in South Devon. We have just found in a South African publication an interesting paper by Duncan & Dunne (1967) which deals largely with residual soils on the Dartmoor granite. Three papers (Orme 1964; Waters 1964; Brunsden 1964) from the book ‘Dartmoor Essays’ are particularly relevant to understanding the geomorphological and weathering history of the Dartmoor region. We apologize to the authors for not having found these references and included them in our own work.
